Description
Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) was an English painter, designer, book illustrator and wood engraver. He grew up in Sussex, and is particularly known for his watercolours of the South Downs. He was commissioned as a war artist, but sadly died when his aircraft was lost off Iceland.
Showing a gun position set on a hillside. A group of figures stand on the right, behind the camouflaged structure that houses the gun. There are enormous yellow flames billowing into the air from the nose of the gun. Delicate white flowers lie in the grass in the foreground.
