Description
The Dubonnet Cup was a short-lived exhibition game held after the English season had ended. It was contested between English Clubs in the years 1910, 1911 and 1912 at held at The Parc des Princes in Paris.
The game was an annual event with the aim of generating interest in French amateur football and thus can claim to have helped lead to the establishment of the French Football Federation in 1919.
The cup itself is an enormous vase-like trophy which weighs in at approximately 112 lb (51 kg). It resides at the Swindon Town clubhouse, following their 2-1 victory over Barnsley in 1910.
Swindon Town and Barnsley were invited to compete for the cup in 1910 following their performances in the FA Cup of that year. Swindon and Barnsley had both lost to the eventual FA Cup winners Newcastle United, Swindon in the Semi-final and Barnsley being the eventual Runners-up.
In 1911 Clapton Orient beat Millwall 3–0 before 12,000 fans.
In 1912 Fulham defeated Queens Park Rangers 4-1
